Movie Unfolder is an iOS app that builds short animations from a single image that you unfold. First, you unfold the image to get a starting frame, and then you unfold the same (seed) image for the last frame. For both unfoldings, you unfold for the same number of generations, but you can independently vary the other parameters (selection square and rotation angle) any way you like.
The app keeps track of what you’ve done in each generation of both the starting and ending frame. It then does the interpolation for each generation to get the resulting movie.
As the app creates the inbetween frames, it shows them to you as it completes them. Watching each frame come and go can be quite absorbing. Complex ideas come and go with each frame. This is a different experience from watching the completed animation.
